It’s expected that we’ll get our first peek at Android O in just a couple of months, and Google is reportedly cooking up some new smart features that might debut the update.
A new report from VentureBeat claims to shed light on new features that Google is working on that might be included with Android O. The first is called Copy Less, which aims to make you deal with dragging the tiny copy brackets and then pasting into another app. For example, you might find a restaurant in the Yelp app, then type “It’s at” in a messaging app and then Gboard will suggest the restaurant’s address, letting just you tap the suggestion and hit Send.
Another feature will improve the way that Android handles certain types of text in messaging apps. One example of this is that when someone pastes an address into Google’s Android Messages app, Android will recognize this as an address and let you tap it to jump into Google Maps.
Finally, Google is reportedly cooking up a way for Android users to use gestures to trigger actions. For example, you might be able to draw a C on your phone’s screen to launch the Contacts app. One source cautioned that this feature might end up getting delayed or killed altogether.
It’s unclear whether or not these features will make the cut into Android O, but they sound like solid additions to Android that’d make using the OS easier. For example, those copy brackets can be a pain to use when you’re trying to select a very particular piece of text, but the Copy Less feature could save users from that headache.
