There’s no shortage of digital assistants on the market, and today a new report claims that there’ll soon be one more.
Huawei is prepping its own voice assistant for use on its smartphones, say sources speaking to Bloomberg. The company reportedly has more than 100 engineers working on its new assistant, and the software is said to be in the early stages of development.
Huawei’s assistant would work in China and speak in Chinese languages. Outside of China, it’s said that Huawei will stick with Google and Amazon services.
It might sound strange that Huawei is building its own voice assistant when there are several others on the market. However, many Google services are blocked in China and Amazon’s Alexa doesn’t yet speak Chinese, so Huawei likely sees this as a chance to help its smartphones stand out in the Chinese market.
