Hot on the heels of the debut of a new Tango smartphone, Google has announced a new way to use its augmented reality platform.

Google today detailed Lumin, a mobile tour that uses Tango and its augmented reality to enrich a museum visit. Lumin was built by the Detroit Institute of Arts and GuidiGO, and when you go to the DIA, you can head to the front desk and ask for a Lenovo Phab 2 Pro to explore the museum with Tango.

With the Phab 2 Pro and Tango, you can do things like see inside of a mummy’s sarcophagus and bandages to view the skeleton beneath them and see what the colorful limestone relief of Mesopotamia would’ve looked when it was first created.

Google says that it’s working to bring Tango to more museums around the world.

This is a great use for Google’s Tango platform. With its augmented reality features, you can use Tango to get a lot more out of exhibits, helping you to better understand what you’re looking at and learn more in the process.
