One day after we learned that the Galaxy S8 will launch with a new digital assistant, some more news about Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship has leaked.
The Galaxy S8 may include a dedicated button on its side for quick access to the phone’s new digital assistant. That’s according to sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal, who say that the latest GS8 prototypes include a this side button for launching the digital assistant.
Because these are prototypes, it’s possible that the final Galaxy S8 won’t include a side button for the virtual assistant. Such a button could be useful to help Samsung push its new digital assistant, though, giving users quick access to the assistant no matter where they are on the phone. And with a hardware button on the side of the phone, users will barely have to move their hand to access the assistant while they’re holding the phone.
Unfortunately, it could be awhile before we find out if the Galaxy S8 does indeed have a dedicated digital assistant button. Today’s report also mentions that Samsung executives are considering announcing the GS8 later in the year than past models. While the Galaxy S7 debuted in mid-February and the Galaxy S6 was announced on the first day of March, Samsung execs may decide to push the Galaxy S8’s reveal into April.
