The latest Android platform distribution stats are here, and included with them is the debut of Nougat.
During the seven-day period that ended on November 7, Google reports that 0.3 percent of all devices that accessed the Play Store were running Android 7.0 Nougat. This is the first time that Nougat has appeared in Google’s distribution numbers after the update was released in late August.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow appeared in 24 percent of all devices, up from 18.7 percent in September, the last time that Google reported these numbers. Meanwhile, Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) appeared on 34.1 percent of devices, down from 35 percent in September.
Moving on down the line, we’ve got Android 4.4 KitKat on 25.2 percent of devices, down from 27.7 percent in September. Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, and 4.3) combined for 13.7 percent of devices, down from 15.6 percent in September. Meanwhile, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich appeared on fell from 1.4 percent in September to 1.3 percent in November.
Rounding out today’s report is Android 2.3 Gingerbread at 1.3 percent, down from 1.5 percent in September, and Android 2.2 Froyo continuing to hold strong at 0.1 percent.
Because Android 7.0 Nougat is so new and currently only on a handful of devices, including Pixels, Nexuses, and the LG V20, it’s no surprise to see that it’s on 0.3 percent on devices. The good news here is that at least Android 6.0 jumped all the way to 24 percent of devices, meaning that nearly one quarter of all Android devices is on Marshmallow, which is one version away from the very latest.
