LeEco today made its big debut in the US with a pair of new smartphones and several other new products.
The Le Pro3 is the flagship Android phone that LeEco will be bringing to the US. It’s got an aluminum chassis with a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display and an 8-megapixel camera on its face, and around back there’s a 16-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 4K video capture, as well as a fingerprint reader below it.
Inside of the Le Pro3 is a Snapdragon 821 processor, the same chipset that’s inside the Google Pixel and ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe. Paired with that Snapdragon 821 is 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 4,070mAh battery that can be charged with Quick Charge 3.0.
One other detail about the Le Pro3 that’s worth noting is that it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, you use the phone’s bottom-mounted USB Type-C port for listening to music and for charging.
LeEco will begin offering the Le Pro3 on November 2 on its LeMall web store. It’ll be available in Gold and Gray, and pricing will be set at $399.
Also announced today is the Le Eco Le S3. This phone is the mid-range, more affordable counterpart to the Le Pro 3. For example, it’s got a Snapdragon 652 processor instead of an 821, and the storage (32GB), RAM (3GB), and battery (3,000mAh) have all been shrunk down, too.
The Le S3 does still have an aluminum body as well as a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display and 8-megapixel front camera. Around back there’s a 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video capture, as well as a fingerprint reader below it.
Like the Le Pro3, the Le S3 lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you’ll be using its USB Type-C port for listening to music.
LeEco will begin selling the Le S3 on November 2. The phone will be offered in Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold color options. Pricing will be set at $249.
LeEco’s Android phones look nice enough, offering premium materials and nice specs, especially for their price tags. LeEco is facing some stiff competition in the “affordable flagship” market in the US, though, with companies like OnePlus, Huawei/Honor, ZTE, and Alcatel all offering devices that are similarly specced and priced. It’ll be interesting to see how LeEco tries to stand out and become relevant in the US like it is in China.
LeEco today also introduced several other products besides its phones. Those include an ExploreVR headset that’ll use the Le Pro3, some TVs, and even a “Super Bike”.
