Nearly one year ago, SwiftKey launched its Neural Alpha keyboard on Android, which used neural networks to make smarter and more meaningful word suggestions. Fast-forward to today and that tech is being integrated into the standard SwiftKey app.
SwiftKey announced today that it’s making its neural network available with SwiftKey Keyboard for Android. The feature is now available as an update through Google Play.
With neural networks, SwiftKey Keyboard can better understand the context of what you’re typing and make better word predictions as a result. For example, after having seen you type “Let’s meet at the,” the neural network-enabled SwiftKey Keyboard could suggest words like “office,” “airport,” or “hotel.” This is because it understands that “office,” “airport,” and “hotel” fit in the context of the sentence that you’ve already typed.
The neural network-enabled SwiftKey Keyboard is available in U.S. English and U.K. English to start, but SwiftKey promises that it’ll add more languages in the future.
SwiftKey is one of the more popular third-party keyboards available on Android, and so the addition of a neural network that’ll make better word suggestions is big news. Not only is it exciting for existing SwiftKey Keyboard users, but it’s also a reason to give the keyboard a look if you’ve switched away from it in the past or never tried it before.
