Apple is launching new cases to go along with its iPhone 7, including a new Smart Battery Case. While this new Smart Battery Case may look similar to the iPhone 6s model, there is one difference to be aware of.
The new iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case boasts a 2365mAh battery, shows The Wirecutter’s Nick Guy. That’s considerably larger than the 1877mAh battery included with the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case that launched last year. Despite this increase, the iPhone 7’s Smart Battery Case carries the same $99 price tag as the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case.

For reference, the iPhone 7’s battery is 1960mAh, according to Chinese regulation agency TENAA. Apple hasn’t officially announced the iPhone 7’s battery size.
One other detail worth noting is that while the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case doesn’t perfectly fit the iPhone 6/6s due to a different camera cutout, Guy says that the case does charge those phones on iOS 10. The 6/6s camera lens is partially covered by the case, but it doesn’t affect the images that you take.
It’s good to see Apple give the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case a healthy boost over the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case. There are iPhone battery cases out there with larger batteries, but some folks will prefer Apple’s official option. With the new iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case, buyers will get a significant battery boost over last year’s model, and even iPhone 6/6s owners can benefit so long as they don’t mind an awkward-looking camera cutout.
