Way back in January, Samsung confirmed that its Gear S2 smartwatch would eventually work with Apple’s iPhone devices. We haven’t heard much about the feature since, but today Samsung finally broke its silence on the matter.
Samsung has launched a beta program to get both the Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2 working with iOS. The beta program is being offered in Korea and will run from Aug. 24 through Sept. 19.
The Gear S2, Gear S2 Classic, and Gear Fit 2 are all a part of the beta program. The supported iOS devices include the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE. To participate, your iPhone must be running iOS 8.4 or higher.
There’s no word on when Samsung will officially launch iOS support for the Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2. Now that this beta program is kicking off, though, we could be getting close to Samsung enabling the Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2 to work with Apple’s iPhones. We’ll have to wait and see how much functionality the Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2 will offer when paired with an iPhone, but whatever it is, iPhone owners will at least have another option when it comes to buying a smartwatch.
