Barnes & Noble are once again teaming up with Samsung to launch a new Nook tablet.
The Galaxy Tab A Nook is now available from Barnes & Noble for $139.99. You can get it for even less if you’ve bought a previous Nook device: Barnes & Noble will give you the Tab A Nook for $99.99 if you trade in or show proof of purchase of any Nook device.
Barnes & Noble also have a special offer for their Members that’ll give them a free cover (worth $39.95) when they take advantage of that upgrade offer.
The Galaxy Tab A Nook is largely the same device as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A (2016) that launched earlier this year. It’s got a 7-inhc 1280x800 display, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, a quad-core processor, FM tuner, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD slot for adding more storage. A 4,000mAh battery powers this whole package.
One notable difference between the Tab A (2016) and Tab A Nook is that the Barnes & Noble device comes preloaded with B&N’s Nook software. That includes features like Nook Profiles that lets you create up to six separate profiles and B&N Readouts, which will give you daily quick reads that include two-minute book excerpts and full articles from magazines and newspapers. B&N Readouts also includes Serial Reads, a program that offer free fiction serials by giving readers a new book each month, delivered in daily chapters.
Barnes & Noble says that it plans to add support for Nook Audiobooks to the Galaxy Tab A Nook through a software update in September.
The Galaxy Tab A Nook runs Android 5.1 and includes support for the Play Store, meaning that you can download regular Android apps.
