Back in May, Google unleashed Gboard, a third-party keyboard for iOS. Gboard was a pretty nice keyboard right out of the gate, offering features that Apple’s keyboard doesn’t, like trace typing and GIF search. And now Gboard is getting better.
Google today updated Gboard to version 1.1.0 and added new features in the process. The update includes smart GIF suggestions that will offer to show you GIFs as you type. For example, you can type “Wow!” and you’ll get an option to perform a GIF search for that term.
Today’s v1.1.0 update also adds keyboard customization options. Previously, Gboard was only available with a light theme, but now you can switch to a dark theme if you’d like. You can also create your own theme using one of your photos, adjusting the level of black overlay, and choosing whether or not you want key borders.
You can see an example of the custom theme tool below.
Finally, Google says that with today’s update, Gboard is now available globally in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), and Spanish (Spain).
To get the Gboard update, visit the App Store on your device. If you haven’t yet tried Gboard, you can get it right here.
This is a nice update to one of the better third-party keyboards on iOS. The GIF suggestion feature will help you more quickly find the perfect GIF to send to your friends, while the new theme tools will help you make your keyboard more personal.
