Snapchat is known for its disappearing photos and video, but today the app is gaining a new feature that’ll let you keep photos and images indefinitely.
Memories is now rolling out on Android and iPhone. With it, you can save your Snaps and Stories for viewing at any time, just by swiping up from the camera screen. You can search through your Memories using keywords, and you can also use Snaps or Stories found in your Memories to create new Snaps. If you do, your Snap will have a white frame around it to let the recipient know that it’s old.
Finally, there’s a My Eyes Only section in which you can save Snaps and Stories that you don’t want others to see.
All of your Memories are backed up by Snapchat, which makes them different from saving a Snap to your device’s Camera Roll.
Snapchat says that Memories will be rolling out slowly over the next month to ensure that everything is working as it should. This is a major new feature for Snapchat, and it makes the app more viable as a camera app replacement, something that I’m sure Snapchat would love for you to do.
