Meizu is primarily known for its Android and Ubuntu smartphones, but the company is making its US debut with something different: a speaker.
Gravity is a new speaker from Meizu and designer Kosho Tsuboi from Tokyo. The speaker sits on a small acrylic block to make it look like it’s floating in the air. It’s also got an acrylic-glass prism display that will be transparent when not in use.
As for the speaker itself, it supports Bluetooth or AUX-in to play music from your phone, as well as Wi-Fi support for streaming directly from services like Spotify, Soundcloud, Last.fm, and TuneIn. Support for Pandora, iHeartRadio, and 7digital are all promised to be coming soon.
The Gravity speaker is currently on Indiegogo and is expected to ship in December 2016. The retail price of the Gravity is $249, but as of this writing there are still more than 100 units available at the early bird price of $169 as well as another 199 units available at a price of $199.
Meizu’s Gravity speaker definitely looks interesting. The acrylic block at the bottom and prism display up top are two unique features, and support for Bluetooth and AUX-in streaming from your phone as well as direct streaming from Spotify and other sources is a nice touch. Because this is on Indiegogo, we won’t know how the Gravity actually sounds until it ships in December, but if you’re in love with the design, you can claim your own right now and start deciding where in your home a floating speaker would look best.
