The new Moto G4 is sticking pretty close to the path that most leaked devices follow before they’re official. First we got a fuzzy “in the wild” photo, then a render, then some better photos, and now the device has allegedly shown its face on video.
A new video claims to show the Moto G4 powered up and in the flesh. The device looks largely similar to the one we saw yesterday, complete with a new-look rear camera design, Motorola dimple, a Motorola prototype logo in the upper left corner of its face, and a front-facing camera. One thing that’s not the same, though, is that the device shown in this video lacks a square fingerprint reader like the one we’ve seen in the past few leaks.
This video goes on to show the Motorola device powered on, and we can see that it’s running what looks to be a fairly vanilla version of Android, which is par for the course for Motorola nowadays. Also included is a comparison with the Moto G (3rd Gen), and this new Motorola device appears to be a tad taller.

So what’s up with this device and its lack of a fingerprint reader? Well, these are still prototype phones, so it’s possible that Motorola is still considering whether or not to include a fingerprint reader. There’s also a chance that there will be two versions of this new Moto G4, one with a fingerprint reader and without. We have heard both “Moto G4” and “Moto G4 Plus” kicked around as names for this unannounced Motorola device, so perhaps there will be one model without a fingerprint reader and a “Plus” version that includes a fingerprint reader.
It’s unclear when Motorola might officially announced this Android device, but the last year’s Moto G debuted in July, so we may still be a few months away from an official reveal of this model.
