We’ve seen Android 6.0 making its way to several 2015 flagships in recent weeks, including devices from LG and HTC. During that time, a lot of Samsung Galaxy S6 owners have been wondering when their Marshmallow update would arrive. Well if you’re on Sprint, that rollout starts today.
Sprint says that it’s now pushing Android 6.0 to both its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. The former device is being updated to software version G920PVPU3CPB6, while the latter is moving to G925PVPU3CPB6. The changelogs only mention “OS Upgrade to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)”, but we do know that GS6 and GS6 edge owners can expect features like Google Now on Tap, improved app permissions, and Doze mode battery improvements.
These updates are rolling out in stages, so don’t fret if Android 6.0 doesn’t appear on your Sprint GS6 or GS6 edge today. If you’re feeling impatient and you want to check for the update manually, you can do so by Settings > System Update > Update now.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge were two of 2015’s biggest smartphones, so it’s exciting to see the US carrier-branded beginning to receive their Android 6.0 updates. It’s not clear when the updates will begin rolling out to the AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon models of the GS6 and GS6 edge, but now that Sprint is starting its pushes, the other carriers shouldn’t be too far off.
