Along with the first Android N Developer Preview, Google today announced the Android Beta Program, a way for devs to easily install the Android N preview and future updates. Now that program is live.
You can now enroll your eligible devices into the Android Beta Program. Simply sign in to your Google account and select which devices you want to install the Android N Developer Preview on. When you opt in, the preview will be pushed to your device Google says that updates can take up to 24 hours to arrive after you opt in, and updates are expected to roll out every four to six weeks. As a reminder, the devices that are compatible with the Android N Developer Preview are the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Pixel C, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player.
If you enroll in the Android Beta Program but later decide that you want to exit the program, you’ll have the option of doing so. However, all of your data will be wiped when you roll back.
One other tidbit that’s worth noting is that Google says if you manually flash Android N to your device using a factory image, you won’t automatically receive OTA updates.
While most Android developers probably have no issue manually flashing system images, this new Android Beta Program makes getting new Android N previews even easier. That’s because the updates are automatically pushed to your device over the air rather than you having to seek out new factory images.
