When the HTC One A9 was announced, one of the notable features was that it was that it would work on Verizon as an LTE-only phone, which would make it the first VZW smartphone without CDMA support. The Verizon support was expected to arrive post-launch, but then it got delayed, and today it’s been revealed that the support just plain isn’t coming.
In a statement sent to Droid-Life, HTC has confirmed that it will not be adding Verizon support to the unlocked HTC One A9. “Following extensive testing, we are unable to support the Verizon network on the Unlocked HTC One A9,” HTC explained. The company says that any Verizon customers that purchased the unlocked One A9 can contact HTC and get a full refund as well as a 20 percent discount on a current HTC phone or any device launching before December 31, 2016.
It’s disappointing to hear that HTC couldn’t get the unlocked One A9 onto Verizon’s network. As I mentioned before, it was expected to be the first LTE-only phone on Verizon’s network, which would’ve been cool to see. The good news is that at least HTC is refunding Verizon customers that bought the unlocked One A9 with the expectation that it’d eventually work on Big Red’s network.
