Google has been making it easy to install Android apps from the web for a while, but now it looks like they’ve made the process even simpler.
Several Android users are reporting that they’re now able to install apps directly from web search results. You can try it yourself by opening up your Google app and searching for an app. Once you hit the “Install” button, you should see a permissions window pop up followed by a window that’ll let you actually install the app.
The old way that this feature works is that, when you hit the “Install” button, you’d be kicked to the app’s page in the Play Store to install the app. With the new method, you aren’t kicked to the Play Store, saving you a step and a bit of time.
I tried this feature on my Android phone and found that I’ve still got the old method, so the quicker install method appears to be rolling out slowly. The new method may not sound like a huge difference from the old one, but it’s kind of awesome that Google has made a way for Android users to install apps directly from a web search. Here’s to hoping that the feature is indeed in a slow rollout so that the rest of us can give it a try soon.
