Oppo F1 'Selfie Expert' boasts 8-megapixel front camera, metal body

When Oppo teased its new F series of phones earlier this month, it said that the devices would have a focus on photography. Now the Oppo F1 has been revealed, and Oppo is calling it a “Selfie Expert.”

The Oppo F1 boasts an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 1/4 inch sensor size so that more light will enter the camera while you’re taking your self-portraits. On the software side, Oppo has included a Beautify 3.0 feature that “brightens your skin and seamlessly removes blemishes.” There are three different beautification modes available as well as several filters, and Oppo has also included a feature that’ll make the F1’s screen flash when you’re taking a selfie to brighten up your image.

Around on the back of the Oppo F1 lives a 13-megapixel camera an f/2.2 aperture. Moving on to the non-camera features of the F1, Oppo’s new phone includes a 5-inch 1280x720 display, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot for adding up to 128GB more storage, 3GB of RAM, an octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor, and a 2500mAh battery that’s powering the whole package. All of those features are wrapped in a 7.25mm-thick metal body with chamfered edges.

The software on the Oppo F1 is Android 5.1 running beneath Oppo’s custom ColorOS 2.1. Oppo says that it’s optimized this version of its custom user interface to offer 30 percent faster boot speed and 311ms shorter app launch times.

Pricing for the Oppo F1 will be set at €229 ($250 USD), but folks in Europe can pre-order one right now for €5 ($5 USD) and get a free Oppo selfie stick.

On paper, the Oppo F1 looks like a perfectly respectable mid-range Android smartphone. It’s going to face a lot of competition at its price point, though, like from the OnePlus X that’s similarly priced and similarly specced, but offers a higher resolution display. But if you’re super into selfies, perhaps the €5 Oppo selfie stick that’s included with F1 pre-orders will convince you to pull the trigger on Oppo’s new smartphone.
