Microsoft has a lot of apps on iOS, and most of them have a productivity focus, like Outlook for email and Office apps like Word and Powerpoint. But today Microsoft added a new app to its library that’s a bit more fun.
Microsoft Selfie is now available for download on the App Store. As its name suggests, Microsoft Selfie is meant to help you take better photos of yourself. The app takes your age, gender, skin tone, the lighting around you, and other variables about a photo and applies enhancements with a click. Those include color themes, intelligent enhancements, and noise reduction.
When you launch the app, it’ll automatically fire up your iOS device’s front-facing camera. You can then tap a button to take a photo, and the app will automatically de-noise the image. You can then adjust that de-noise with a slider and apply various filters. Once you’re done, you can hit Save to save the image to your Camera Roll.
It’s kind of strange to a new selfie app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch from a company known for productivity apps. Selfies are a big deal nowadays, though, and so perhaps Microsoft thought it’d try to get itself a slice of that pie with a dedicated selfie app. It’s definitely bare-bones, but if the prospect of taking a selfie and then immediately having it tweaked and “beautified” appeals to you, you can try Microsoft Selfie right now.
