The year 2016 is going to be a big one for the HTC Vive, as HTC plans to give 7000 units of the VR headset to developers and then unleash Vive to the public in April. Before then, though, HTC has something to announce at CES.
HTC CEO Cher Wang today teased that her company and Valve recently made “a very, very big technological breakthrough” with the Vive. That breakthrough is apparently what caused the launch of the Vive to slip to April, as Wang explained that HTC didn’t want to ship one version of the Vive in December then make their users swap for a new unit in April.
The good news is that we won’t have to wait until April to find out what this technological breakthrough is, as HTC plans to show it at CES in early January. Exactly what the breakthrough is remains to be seen, but if it prompted HTC to push the Vive launch back a few months, it must be good.
Are you thinking about buying the HTC Vive (for a still undisclosed price) when it launches in April?
