Four months after it launched, the OnePlus 2 will be available without an invite.
OnePlus confirmed today that at midnight on December 5, the OnePlus 2 will be available invite-free forever. OnePlus is also making the OnePlus X available invite-free, but only for a limited time. OnePlus’s newest phone will be sold without an invite from December 5 through December 7. Additionally, OnePlus will offer deals on select accessories:
Finally, OnePlus notes that in order to guarantee you get your order in time for the holidays, you’ll need to order by December 7.
OnePlus made the OnePlus One available invite-free, too, but that didn’t happen until one year after the device debuted. The OnePlus 2 is going invite-free around four months after its launch, and it’s still a newish smartphone that folks may be considering buying. And while it’d be nice if OnePlus just launched a smartphone without invites, the company maintains that the invite system is necessary to help it scale its operations. And compared to the year that it took the OnePlus One to go invite-free, four months doesn’t seem all that bad.
