OnePlus is the next company to detail its plans for updating its phones to Android 6.0, the newest version of Google’s mobile OS.
Both the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus One are expected to receive Android 6.0 in the first quarter of 2016. With an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the OnePlus 2 will get the native fingerprint API that’s built in with Marshmallow. Meanwhile, the OnePlus One will get a Marshmallow-based Cyanogen OS update in Q1. OnePlus is also planning to offer an Android 6.0-based OxygenOS update for the OnePlus One “when time allows.”
OnePlus’s newest product, the OnePlus X, will get an update to Android 6.0 as well. There’s no timeframe for that update, though, with OnePlus only saying that it’s “working hard to bring Marshmallow as soon as possible” to the device.
It’s not entirely surprising to see OnePlus planning to update the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X since they’re both fairly new devices. And while the OnePlus One is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, at least for the smartphone world, it’s the first device from OnePlus and likely moved a few units thanks to its affordable price tag, so it’s good to see that it’ll get Marshmallow, too. Now we wait for the rollout to begin.
