T-Mobile has confirmed that its Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will get an update to Android 6.0, and while neither T-Mo nor Samsung have said when that update will begin rolling out, one user appears to have already gotten it.
T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 owner Danon reports that he got an update to Android 6.0 — specifically, build MRA58K.N920TUVU2DOK5. That MRA58K is the same Marshmallow build that was previously released to some Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.
As for how Danon got the update, he explains that he was having issues with his Note 5’s IMEI info, so he used the Samsung Odin tool to restore his phone to stock firmware. After restoring, he launched System Update to check for a new build and was presented with a Marshmallow treat. The bad news for Danon is that he’s still having IMEI problems, so he can’t use the cellular functionality of his newly-updated handset.
Neither Samsung nor T-Mobile have officially announced the start of the Android 6.0 rollout for the Note 5, and I haven’t found any other folks that’ve gotten the update too. Exactly why Danon got this update is unclear, but it appears to have been accidentally pushed to him when he reset his device. The good news is that at least there are some screenshots that give us a peek at what Marshmallow looks like on the Galaxy Note 5.
