Google today released the details on its November 2015 security update for Nexus phones, part of its effort to release security updates for its Android phones every month.
Google says that its November 2015 security update includes fixes for 7 vulnerabilities. Two of them are classified as “critical,” with the most severe vulnerability being one that could allow remote code execution through methods like email, web browsing, and MMS when the system is processing a media file.
Google notified its Android partners of the issues patched in this update on October 5 or earlier. That’s given them time to build patches into updates of their own. Like Google, Samsung and LG have committed to pushing monthly security updates to its Android devices, so we could see fixes from them soon. Google also says that the source code patches for these vulnerabilities will be released to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) over the next 48 hours.
Monthly security updates like this one are another notable feature of Nexus devices. Not only has Google committed to pushing monthly security updates to Nexus devices, but because Android belongs to Google, those Nexus devices are going to get security updates before phones and tablets from other companies, even those that have also committed to monthly security updates. If you’ve already got a Nexus device, keep an eye out for an update in the coming days.
