One week after YouTube Red was made official, the service has gone live.
You can now sign up for YouTube Red, the subscription service that offers an ad-free YouTube experience as well as support for background playback and offline viewing. Pricing is set at $9.99 per month, but you can get a 1-month free trial before you start paying. It's also worth noting that your membership extends across all devices and apps. YouTube Red is currently only available in the US.
YouTube Red also includes members-only access to original shows and movies that’ll launch in the future. There will be shows from PewDiePie, CollegeHumor, and more.
In addition to all of those YouTube goodies, a YouTube Red subscription includes access Google Play Music for no additional charge. Google Play Music is Google’s music subscription service.
While YouTube’s ads typically aren’t all that offensive, it’s nice to see YouTube offering an ad-free option. Background playback and offline viewing are bonuses, letting you listen to content while doing other things on your phone or watch videos when you’ve got no data connection. And when you add in a Google Play Music subscription, too, YouTube Red becomes a pretty solid offering.
