Ever since Project Fi debuted earlier this year, the only way to join the service was to request an invite and then wait for Google to send it you. For 24 hours, that second part is being eliminated.
To celebrate the launch of the Nexus 5X, Google is handing out “instant invites” for Project Fi. That means that, for the next 24 hours, you can request a Project Fi invite and get it right away.
Of course, you’ll still need to live in an area where Project Fi is available in order to get an invite. Google says that the Project Fi Early Access Program isn’t yet available in my town, so I can’t take advantage of the instant invite promo.
Project Fi is Google’s wireless service that utilizes Sprint, T-Mobile, and Wi-Fi networks to give you the best signal at any time. Because of this, only three devices currently support Project Fi: the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 6. If you’ve got one of those phones, you can sign up for a Fi plan, which starts at $20 for unlimited talk and text. You then add data at a rate of $10 per gigabyte, and at the end of each billing cycle, Google will credit you for any unused data that you’ve got.
