Most carriers nowadays offer metered data plans, meaning that you have to try and calculate how much data you use per month and select the a plan with a fixed amount of data. With Boost Mobile’s new feature, though, you can actually earn more data every few months.
Boost Mobile’s new Growing Data feature offer additional high-speed data on top of your monthly allotment for every three on-time payments that you make. The way that it works is that after three on-time payments, you get an extra 500MB of high-speed data, and you’ll continue to earn extra high-speed data until you reach 3GB after 18 on-time payments.
Growing Data is an add-on to your existing Boost Mobile plan. So with the base $35 dollar plan — which can drop to $30 per month if you turn on auto-renew — you start with 2GB of high-speed data but can grow it to 5GB after 18 months. There’s also a $45 plan that starts with 5GB of high-speed data that can eventually grow to 8GB. Of course, if you’d rather not deal with data limits, Boost does offer a $60 plan with unlimited high-speed data.
Because prepaid plans are typically month-to-month deals, prepaid customers can come and go as they please, which is unlike traditional carriers that want to lock you in with a contract or phone lease/installment plan. Because of this, prepaid carriers want to instill loyalty in their customers and get them to stick around. That’s what Boost is doing with Growing Data, and it’s an interesting offer, especially because most folks on a plan with limited high-speed data would love to get extra without paying extra.
