With just two days to go before Apple’s massive September 9 event, details about what the company will show there continue to leak. The newest report claims to shed more light on the oft-rumored iPad Pro.
According to 9to5Mac sources, the iPad Pro will be available in 64GB and 128GB capacities and will launch with iOS 9.1 out of the box. The device’s 12.9-inch display is described as being a “monster,” and thanks to having a larger display than other iPad models, it’s said that the iPad Pro will be able to run to full-size portrait iPad apps at once while in landscape mode. While the iPad Air 2 can run two apps side-by-side with iOS 9, those apps are condensed versions of their full selves.
Also said to be included with the iPad Pro is an A9X chip that’s reportedly a “large” improvement over the iPad Air 2’s A8X processor, as well as a set of four stereo speakers.
Two details that aren’t expected to be included with the iPad Pro are a keyboard and Force Touch-friendly stylus. Apple has allegedly created two new keyboards for the device, one that also serves as a case and another that’s like its aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard. Apple will reportedly also have a slew of Smart Covers and Smart Cases for the iPad Pro, just like it does for the other iPad models.
As for launch and pricing, it’s said that Apple will take pre-orders for the iPad Pro in October, and right now it looks like manufacturing delays might push the launch to late November. There’s no word on exact pricing, but considering the 64GB and 128GB options and the “monster screen,” I don’t expect the iPad Pro to be cheap. If you’re feeling particularly spendy, it’s said that LTE-enabled iPad Pro models will be offered.
If these leaks hold true, the iPad Pro sounds like it’ll live up to its name, offering a big high-res display for folks that want to get work done with a tablet. It likely won’t be cheap, but professional-grade products rarely are. For those folks that are interesting in a large tablet that can be used for creating content, though, they’ll have a new option to consider along with the likes of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
