When reservations for the Turing Phone launched in early August, consumers could make sure that they’d get one of the super-secure Android phones of their own, but there was no word on when the devices would begin shipping. Now that ship date has finally been revealed.
In an email to supporters, Turing Robotic Industries has revealed that the Turing Phone will begin shipping on December 18. You’ll be able to pay for your reserved unit much sooner, though, as invites will begin going out on September 21 — pricing will be set at $610 for the 16GB model, $740 for the 64GB model, and $870 for the capacious 128GB version — and you’ll be required to pay for your order on September 24.
TRI has also revealed two special versions of the Turing Phone. The Dark Wyvern model will offer 128GB of storage and an all-black body with gold accents for $999. Pre-orders for the Dark Wyvern will begin on September 24, and if you’ve already got a reservation, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Dark Wyvern if you’d like.
If that’s not quite special enough, there will also be a Dark Wyvern Glaedr model that’ll come with 128GB of storage and a $1299 price tag. Only 3000 units of the Dark Wyvern Glaedr model will be offered, and TRI promises to share more info about the super-special unit on September 9.
The Turing Phone is touted as being super tough, both in terms of hardware and software. The phone itself is made of a “liquidmorphium” material that’s said to be tougher than titanium, while the Turing Æmæth UI is said to offer a secure version of Android 5.1. The phone’s feature set includes a 5.5-inch 1920x 1080 display, 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, LTE, and a 3000mAh battery.
