Verizon-branded DROID MAXX 2 backs leak, look similar to Moto X Play

Hot on the heels of a report that the Moto X Play will be coming to Verizon as the DROID MAXX 2, a new leak has seemingly backed up that rumor with some images.

HellomotoHK, the source of several Motorola rumors in the past, has posted images that claim to show the backs of the DROID MAXX 2. We can plainly see Verizon and DROID banding on the back of the rear covers, and when compared to the rear of the Moto X Play, the backs do appear to be the same size and have the same rear camera and dimple cutout.

Lots of folks were disappointed when Motorola said that the Moto X Play wouldn’t be coming to the US, but that decision makes sense if the X Play is released on Verizon as the DROID MAXX 2. The DROID brand is exclusive to Verizon in the US, which means that we won’t be seeing the MAXX 2 on any other US carriers, and I’m sure Verizon would prefer that the DROID-less Moto X Play stays off of other operators too. As a result, Verizon probably wanted Motorola to keep the Moto X Play out of the US entirely.

In addition to leaking this info about the DROID MAXX 2, HellomotoHK has backed up the rumor that Verizon is working on a DROID Turbo 2. However, there’s no mention of whether or not it’ll be a rebranded Moto X Style like another recent report claimed.
