Many smartphone makers follow an annual upgrade cycle, beefing up their smartphone hardware on a yearly basis. Today Oppo has followed that trend with its super-thin R5s.
The Oppo R5s is the updated version of 2014’s R5, and while the R5s has some improved internals, it’s managed to keep its waistline the same 4.85mm thickness that last year’s R5 offered. The Oppo R5s offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is more RAM and double the memory of the R5, which had 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
Many of the R5s’s others specs have been carried over from the R5. The R5s packs a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display, 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX214 sensor, 5-megapixel front camera, 2000mAh battery, and Android 4.4 running beneath Oppo’s custom ColorOS 2.0 user interface.
The Oppo R5s will be available from OppoStyle starting August 25 for around $225. While the R5s offers modest improvements over its predecessor, it does offer added RAM and storage, two important smartphone features. Plus, it keeps the same 4.85mm thickness, which is pretty much the R5s’s raison d'etre.
