UPDATE: Some additional images that show a Huawei Nexus have surfaced. This time, though, the device is mostly obscured by a protective case. We can see the front-facing speakers, fingerprint reader, and USB Type-C port, though, and a bootloader image also points to the inclusion of a Snapdragon 810 processor and 64GB of storage.
ORIGINAL: Earlier this month, a leaked video claimed to show a render of the LG Nexus 5 2015, and then alleged photos of the device in the wild leaked a couple of days later. Now it looks like the Huawei Nexus is following a similar pattern.
Newly-leaked photos claim to show the Huawei Nexus, codenamed “Angler,” and it looks fairly similar to the render that came out earlier this month. The back of the phone includes Huawei and Nexus branding, a band at the bottom that’d presumably house the antennas, and a round object that’s likely a fingerprint reader. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit about the back of the phone is the black hump at the top that houses the camera and flash. The whole panel appears to be jutting out of the phone, like on the DROID RAZR.
An image of what looks to be a case for the phone gives a better look at this protruding panel, which also includes a third cutout next to the camera flash. This could be for a laser auto focus system, which seems to be a popular feature among device makers nowadays. The case also includes a cutout for that round thing above the Nexus branding, making it more likely that it’s a fingerprint reader.
As for the front of the Huawei Nexus, the device appears to have a pair of front-facing speakers as well as a front camera.
In terms of specs, the Huawei Nexus is rumored to include a 5.7-inch display on its face as well as a 3500mAh battery inside of its metal body.
So is this leak the real deal? We won’t know for sure until Huawei and Google announce this thing, which could happen in October if past Nexus launches are any indication. The device does line up with the previously-leaked renders, though, and it also shares features with the LG Nexus 5 2015 that recently leaked, such as the fingerprint readers and protruding cameras.
What do you think of this leaked device? I think it looks alright, and it could be even better when we can handle its metal body in real life rather than squinting at it in fuzzy phone photos.
