Following a Cortana for Android announcement in May and an APK leak in July, Microsoft’s digital assistant is now officially available for download on Android.
Microsoft today released Cortana for Android into a public beta, letting anyone download the app from Google Play and give it a try. Cortana is a digital assistant that can give you reminders, search the internet, track flights, and help you keep track of your tasks. Microsoft says that it’s made many improvements to Cortana for Android thanks to a private beta test, including the ability to replace Google Now with Cortana when you press the home button on your Android phone or tablet.
Microsoft reiterates that Cortana for Android is currently in beta and that it plans to improve the app during this public test. The company also says that while Cortana for Android is currently US-only, it will launch in other markets.
While Cortana for Android isn’t quite as fully featured as Google Now, it looks like a fairly featured digital assistant for being in public beta. The app is likely most attractive to folks that are running Windows 10 on their laptop or desktop, as the information contained in Cortana’s Notebook syncs between platforms. Regardless of which OS you use on your computer, though, you can give Cortana for Android a try right now by hitting up this link.
