When HTC launched the One M8 with Sense 6, it introduced Motion Launch gestures, which allow you to wake the One M8 and perform functions by tapping or swiping on the screen. For example, you can double tap to wake the phone from sleep, or swipe right to launch BlinkFeed. Fast forward a year and a half from the debut of Motion Launch, and HTC has added the app to the Play Store.
HTC Motion Launch is now live in Google Play, which means that HTC can now update the app to add features or bug fixes more easily than it could when the app was just built into Sense. The version of Motion Launch included on the Play Store comes with unspecified “bug fixes” and requires Android 5.0. Since it’s an HTC app, an HTC device — like the One M9 — is probably going to be required to use it.
The release of Motion Launch into Google Play is the latest in HTC’s long effort to upload its custom Sense UI apps into Google’s app marketplace. Doing so lets HTC update its apps whenever it wants rather than waiting around for a full-on phone software update.
