A recent rumor suggested that the iPhone 6s might make its debut on September 9. Before then, though, the rumor mill is going to do its best to show off all of the new features of Apple’s new smartphone.
A new video posted by Unbox Therapy, the source of the original #Bendgate controversy, claims to show a new shell for the iPhone 6s. Upon inspection, the new iPhone 6s shell is said to be slightly taller and lighter than the iPhone 6 shell, but also slightly lighter. Perhaps most importantly, the iPhone 6s shell is shown to be slightly thicker in areas that were susceptible to bending on the iPhone 6, like around the cutouts for the home, volume, and power buttons.
While opinions on the whole #Bendgate controversy will vary, Apple did acknowledge the matter, saying that it got six complaints of bent iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units in their first six days of availability. And while #Bendgate may not have affected a ton of people, it did get a lot of headlines. Because of that, I could see Apple opting to reinforce the iPhone 6s’s shell, which would allow it to say “Hey, remember #Bendgate? Well we’ve addressed it with a stronger body on the iPhone 6s.” Doing so would dispel concerns that consumers have about buying the new iPhone.
In other iPhone 6s leak news, reseller MacManiack has posted a video that claims to compare the iPhone 6s display with the iPhone 6 display. The two displays are largely the same, with the iPhone 6s having small changes like Touch ID integration into the LCD and digitizer connector and the display’s protective plate on the LCD rear being glued in place. Perhaps the most notable change is the new connector in the upper left corner of the iPhone 6s, which supports rumors that the new device will offer Force Touch technology.
