After skipping the month of July, Google has returned to give us some fresh Android distribution stats for August 2015.

As usual, Google gathered is Android OS distribution data by gathering info from all of the Android devices that accessed the Google Play Store app during the 7-day period that ended on August 3. Android Lolliop — versions 5.0 and 5.1 — was on 18.1 percent of devices during that period, with 5.0 taking 15.5 percent and 5.1 getting 2.6 percent. That total is up from 12.4 percent in June.

Android 4.4 KitKat represented 39.3 percent of devices during the survey period, which is the most for a single version and a slight increase from the 39.2 percent share it had in June. Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean was on 33.6 percent of devices during the August survey period, a drop from 37.4 percent. Rounding out the 4.x versions of Android is 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which was on 4.1 percent of devices, a drop from 5.1 percent in June.

Finally, we come to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 2.2 Froyo, which are still barely hanging on. Gingerbread finished the period with a 4.6 percent share, down from 5.6 percent in June, while Android 2.2 Froyo held steady at 0.3 percent.

It’s awesome to see Android Lollipop grow a full 6 percent since the last time that Google reported its Android distribution stats. It’s not totally surprising since Google took July off, and because flagship devices like the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, HTC One M9, and LG G4 were running Android 5.0 and 5.1 during that period, but it’s still nice to see.
