Motorola is slated to take the wraps off of its new Moto X and Moto G hardware in the US later today, but over in India, Motorola’s already revealed one of its new handsets.
The new Moto G (3rd Gen.) is now officially official thanks to Motorola India. The company introduced the new 2015 version of the Moto G at an event in New Delhi, showing a phone with a 5-inch 1280x720 display, 5-megapixel front camera, and 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone flash and f/2.0 aperture.
Inside of the new Moto G’s body — which is now IPX7 water resistant — lives a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and microSD slot. When it comes to RAM and storage, Motorola will offer two variants, at least in India: one with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, and one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
In terms of software, the new Moto G will run the Motorola version of Android that we’ve become familiar with in recent years. That means a near-stock version of Android with a handful of Motorola tweaks, like gestures that include a Chop Twice animation for activating the phone’s flashlight.
In India, the Moto G (3rd Gen.) will launch at midnight with prices of ₹11,999 ($188 USD) for the 1GB/8GB version and ₹12,999 ($204 USD) for the beefier 2GB/16GB model.
The new Moto G looks like a solid improvement over the second generation model, offering an upgraded processor, better cameras, and more RAM (at least in one model). There’s also the addition of IPX7 water resistance, which is a big addition to this affordable Android handset.
