Android users, you’re going to get a new version of the Google Play app soon, and it includes a pretty neat animation that you might not have noticed if someone didn’t tell you about it.
Googler Kirill Grouchnikov says that Google Play app v5.8 is now rolling out and that it brings with it a hamburger menu that morphs into a back arrow and then back again. This animation occurs when you flip between browsing the Play Store and viewing a details page, and it’s pretty slick. As the folks at Android Police note, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen this animation, but typically it’s covered up by the slide-out navigation drawer.
But what about when you scroll in the Play Store app and the hamburger disappears? When you click to the details of a piece of content, the back icon will fade in.
This hamburger-to-arrow morphing is a nice touch that, again, you might not even notice if you weren’t looking for it. Right now there is no such animation, so it’s nice to see Google paying attention to the small details of their app and making sure that even they look nice.
Grouchnikov says that Play Store v5.8 is now rolling out, so keep an eye out for it. The APK isn’t yet available, so for now we’ll just have to wait for the rollout.
