Earlier today, MTV announced their VMA nominees. At around the same time, Beats 1 radio temporarily went down. For users who relied heavily on this service, many may have panicked. Unfortunately, Beats 1 radio wasn’t the only service that was inaccessible.
Shortly before 10AM EST, Apple confirmed the report that several of their services went down temporarily. Plenty of users complained about not being able to access different Apple services such as Apple Music, Apple TV, iTunes Store, iTunes Match, iTunes U, App Store, Radio, Mac App Store, OS X Software Update, and many more.

With the number of disappointed users, Apple was quick to respond and restore normal service. As reported, service normalized before 2PM EST. While this down time was temporary and did not affect everyone, it still proved to be a headache for those who needed to use their device, particularly for those that needed to use these services during the MTV VMA nominee announcements. It’s hard to tell whether the temporary outage was coincidental or a result of the traffic from the VMAs. If it’s the latter, Apple seriously needs to improve their system so things like these won’t be a cause of panic for some users.
As of now, Apple is investigating the issue and has promised to provide information once it becomes available.
