UPDATE: Motorola's David Schuster has confirmed that the Verizon Moto X (2nd Gen.)'s Android 5.1 soak test is underway, adding that it should open up to more users next week so long as the test goes smoothly.
Schuster also revealed that Motorola is now soak testing Android 5.1 for the Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen.) in the US today and that, after solving a bug, the soak test for the Moto E (1st Gen.)'s Android 5.1 update is once again underway in Brazil and India.
With the full deployment of Android 5.1 to the Moto X (2nd Gen.) Pure Edition, many owners of carrier-branded Moto X (2nd Gen.) models are likely wondering where their 5.1 update is. We’ve now got an answer for one group.
An Android 5.1 update soak test is now hitting some owners of the Moto X (2nd Gen.) for Verizon. The update bumps the Verizon X to system version 23.16.3 and is approximately 500MB.
Neither Motorola nor Verizon have announced this update quite yet, but if the Moto X (2nd Gen.) Pure Edition’s Android 5.1 update is any indication, the Verizon model’s update will include tweaks like the ability to select Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections from Quick Settings as well as a new Chop Twice for Flashlight gesture. So long as this soak test goes smoothly, we could see Verizon make this update public in the coming week or two.
