Samsung Galaxy A8 leak shows an Android 5.1.1 phone with a 5.9mm-thick body

Dig super-thin smartphones? If so, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the Samsung Galaxy A8.

The Galaxy A8 has popped up in several leaks that show a device with a body that measures 5.9mm thick. To compare, the Galaxy S6 is widely regarded as a pretty thin phone, and it’s 6.8mm thick. The A8 also recently appeared in the database of the Federal Communications Commission.

According to Chinese regulator TENAA’s database, the A8’s 5.9mm-thick body houses a 5.7-inch 1920x1080 Super AMOLED display, octa-core 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and 5-megapixel front cameras. Also said to be included is a fingerprint reader and Android 5.1.1.

While the Galaxy A8 may not have quite the same high-end specs of its Galaxy S6 and Note 4 brethren, its leaked feature set is still very respectable, especially given its super-thin body. Two details that we don’t yet have are where in the world the Galaxy A8 will be released and when it’ll begin hitting store shelves, but now that it’s passed TENAA and FCC, it’s definitely working its way to market.
