Verizon's Lumia 735 finally launches with wireless charging, free Office 365

Eight months after we first got wind of the trip to Verizon, the device has finally launched.

The Microsoft Lumia 735 is now available from Verizon’s online store at a price of $0 down and 24 payments of $8 each with Verizon Edge, $79.99 with a two-year contract, or $192 full retail. If you’d prefer to get your Lumia 735 from a brick and mortar Verizon store, you’ll have to wait until next month.

The Lumia 735 on Verizon is largely similar to the model that launched internationally last year. That means that the Verizon Lumia 735’s got a 4.7-inch 1280x720 AMOLED display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 6.7-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel wide-angle front cameras, a microSD card slot, a 2200mAh battery, and Windows Phone 8.1. An upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile will eventually be available. The Lumia 735 also offers built-in wireless charging, and Verizon will offer wireless charging back covers in orange, green, white, red, and cyan for $24.99 each.

One notable change is that the Verizon Lumia 735 offers 16GB of storage, whereas the international model only offers 8GB.

It’s also worth noting that anyone that buys a Verizon Lumia 735 through July 31 will get one year of Office 365 Personal for free. Office 365 Personal includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote as well as 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage.

Verizon isn’t exactly known for having a large Windows Phone lineup, so it’s nice to see a new Lumia smartphone arrive on Big Red’s shelves. When Cam reviewed the Lumia 735 last year, he found it to be “a great device for the money,” so the Verizon model could be worth a look if you’re a VZW customer that’s in the market for an affordable smartphone.
