Many Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners are likely wondering when their shiny new phone will be updated to Android 5.1, the shiny new version of Lollipop. And Samsung hasn’t said when the update will hit, we may know some of the goodies that it’ll include.
Two recent reports claim to have revealed a few of the camera features that Samsung will include in its Android 5.1 update for the GS6 and GS6 edge. After spending some time with an early version of the GS6’s Android 5.1 update, SamMobile says that it allows you to control the exposure of a photo by sliding your finger up or down on the phone’s screen, just like Apple does on iOS. While exposure control itself isn’t new, this new method will be much easier for regular folks to figure out.
Two other features that are reportedly coming to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge with Android 5.1 are shutter speed control and support for RAW images. RAW image capture allows you to take totally uncompressed photos that allow for total control over how they look, but also have huge file sizes.
Samsung has focused on camera and image quality on many of its recent Galaxy S smartphones, and so it’s no surprise to hear that Sammy may be planning to expand the Galaxy S6’s camera and make it more friendly for both novice and expert photographers. Samsung is allegedly aiming to release Android 5.1 for the GS6 in June, so it may not be long before we get to test these camera features out for ourselves. And if they hold true, they could help reinforce the GS6 as one of the best cameras in mobile.
