NVIDIA has been pretty spot on with Android OS updates for its SHIELD hardware in the past, and that trend continues today.
NVIDIA is now pushing Android 5.1 to its SHIELD Tablet. The bump to 5.1 is part of SHIELD Tablet Software Upgrade 3.0, which also includes goodies like improved display performance, new firmware for the SHIELD controller, and some system-wide tweaks. Here’s NVIDIA’s changelog for the update:
Upgrade Android Operating System to version 5.1
Improved display performance
Please note: You can update the SHIELD controller over WiFi. Look out for a notification on your SHIELD tablet.
With this update to Android 5.1, NVIDIA continues to be one of the best Android OEMs when it comes to providing OS updates in a speedy manner. Combine that with the fact that the SHIELD devices run a fairly untouched version of Android and you’ve got a combination that’s sure to please the hardcore Android fans out there. And if you don’t yet have a SHIELD device, NVIDIA’s history with updates may make those products worth a look.
If you’ve got a SHIELD Tablet, be sure to let us know when you get Android 5.1 on your device!
