It’s expected that Android M will be a part of Google I/O later this month, and while we don’t yet know which dessert the M will stand for, details on what features the update might include have started to trickle in.
A new report from BuzzFeed News claims that Google will include native fingerprint authentication in Android M. The feature will let users log into apps without having to enter a password.
We’ve already seen several Android devices come to market with fingerprint readers, and it seems to be a feature that’s gaining more adoption in recent months. Current and past devices have required the device makers to build fingerprint authentication support into their software, though, making more work for manufacturers and making it so they may decide to limit the number of products that they include fingerprint readers in. If Google builds fingerprint authentication into Android, we could see more devices come to market with the feature and give more users a secure way to keep their phones and apps locked from intruders.
