Last month, a mysterious 500GB version of the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console appeared on NVIDIA’s website. NVIDIA said that the model was posted in error and that the 500GB SHIELD console is a developer kit that’s not meant for consumers. It was thought at the time that the mystery of the 500GB SHIELD had been solved, but that may not have been the case.
A product page for an NVIDIA SHIELD Pro has appeared on Amazon, complete with a 500GB hard drive like the one included with the model that leaked last month. The product is attributed to NVIDIA and the page has several high-def product photos, including one of a box that clearly says “500GB Android TV” at the top. There are other references to the SHIELD Pro’s 500GB of storage on the page as well, like in a comparison chart that stacks the console up against the Fire TV, Roku 3, and Apple TV.
So what’s going on here? Well, it’s possible that NVIDIA is indeed going to offer a 500GB version of its SHIELD console, and it just wanted to keep that version a secret rather than confirm it when the model originally leaked last month. There’s also a chance that Amazon’s product page could be an error or fake or something, but the high-quality image of the packaging that says “500GB Android TV” makes somewhat tough to believe.
Would you be interested in a 500GB NVIDIA SHIELD console for $299 if it is indeed offered to consumers?
