Google Fit app update adds better tracking, widget, and Android Wear watch face

If you use Google Fit to track your activities, you’re going to want to update the app from Google Play as soon as possible, because a major update is now rolling out.

The new Google Fit update can estimate distance and calories burned once you update your profile with a few details. Once you share your gender, height, and weight with Google Fit, the app will be able to measure how far you’ve got and how many calories you’ve burned in a workout.

The update also includes a new way to view past workouts that’ll group activities by days, weeks, or months. And finally, Google is pushing out a Google Fit widget and an Android Wear watch face, both of which will let you see your progress with a quick glance at your smartphone or smartwatch.

Overall this is a pretty major update to Google Fit. The new feature that can estimate your distance and calories burned may be the biggest addition, and I’m sure that most Google Fit users will take advantage of the feature. The widget and Android Wear watch face are nice, too, because they make it super easy to see how much activity you’ve taken part in during your day.
