In the days following the debut of the LG G4, there was confusion about whether or not it supported Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology for speeding battery charging. The chipset inside the G4 should support it, but LG made no announcements about the feature inside of the device. That’s finally changing today.
LG has confirmed that the G4 does indeed include support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, telling Pocketnow that while it didn’t intentionally build support for the tech into the G4, the inclusion of the Snapdragon 808 processor lets the G4 take advantage of Quick Charge 2.0. Indeed, you can navigate to Qualcomm’s website, search for products that include Quick Charge 2.0 support, and find the LG G4 near the top of the list.
It’s worth noting that the wall charger included with the LG G4 isn’t Quick Charge 2.0-compatible, so you’re going to need a new charger like the Motorola Turbo Charger to take advantage of the feature. That’s kind of a bummer, but the good news here is that we’ve finally been able to end the whole “Does it or doesn’t it?” situation surrounding the G4’s support of Quick Charge 2.0, and I’m betting that any would-be G4 buyers are just happy to have the feature confirmed ahead of the phone’s release.
