After confirming a couple of months ago that it would begin making mobile games, Nintendo today revealed more details of its plans to get onto our smartphones and tablets.
Nintendo says all of its IP is eligible to be used for its mobile games, but it didn’t say exactly which ones might actually make the cut. The company aims to release a total of five mobile games by March 2017, which it says isn’t a small number because it wants to operate each one for “a significant amount of time after their releases” and because it wants to make each game a hit. The first Nintendo mobile game will launch by the end of 2015.
Nintendo previously said that it won’t be porting any of its old games to mobile, so we can rule out ever seeing Super Mario Bros. 3 on an iPhone or Android device. Considering how iconic a character Mario is, though, I could see Nintendo and its partner DeNA using the plumber for at least one of its new mobile games.
What kinds of mobile games would you like to see from Nintendo?
